30THSEA GAMES PHILIPPINES 2019 NATIONAL ATHLETE SELECTION FOR MULTISPORT EVENTS TRIATHLON AND DUATHLON.

Putrajaya, July 2019 – Philippines will play host to the 30thSEA Games, to be held from November 30thto December 11th2019. Six Gold Medals are up for grabs through multisport events Triathlon and Duathlon. Our athletes will be competing in Individual Olympic Distance Triathlon Men and Women; Mixed Relay Triathlon; Individual Olympic Distance Duathlon Men and Women; and Mixed Relay Duathlon.

Malaysia Triathlon Association (New)  with the support of the National Sports Council (MSN), announced that an open selection for all eligible athletes will be scheduled on the 13thto 14thJuly 2019 in Putrajaya for the Triathlon events; 22ndto 23rdJuly in Sepang Circuit (SIC) for Duathlon events.

The purpose of the selection is to bring together potential athletes from all over the country to compete on an equal playing field. Most qualified athletes will be selected to represent Malaysia in the upcoming SEA Games in Philippines.

The selection is based on several criteria. They need to first fulfill the standard requirements in order to be shortlisted, mental and physical fitness is also taken into consideration, and all athletes must meet the qualification time set by the Technical Selection Committee.

However, the final decision lies with the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) as to whether Malaysia will be sending any representatives to compete in the multisport events Triathlon and Duathlon in the upcoming SEA Games.

Malaysia has performed well in the field of multisport. In the recent SEA Games 2017, Malaysia bagged a Bronze Medal win, accomplished by Triathlete Irene Chong who clocked in at 2:25:44. Proving that Malaysian athletes have what it takes to compete in the international arena, be it in Asia and beyond.

According to the President of the Malaysia Triathlon Association (New) En. Ramzulhakim Ramli, multisports have grown in popularity in Malaysia. With Malaysian athletes’ participation in the SEA Games, he hopes that it will encourage even more people to embark into multisports. Especially the youth, as he plans to discover and develop more world class athletes in the future.
